Young Romano Floriani Mussolini scored his first professional goal. ANSA – EMANUELE PENNACCHIO
This Sunday, December 22, 2024, Romano Floriani Mussolini, great-grandson of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, scored the first goal of his professional football career in Serie B, the Italian second division. The fans of his club, Juve Stabia, celebrated with fascist salutes.
It was a completely crazy scene that took place this Sunday, in the stands of an Italian football stadium. Romano Floriani Mussolini, 21 years old, who is the great-grandson of Benito Mussolini, scored his first professional goal with Juve Stabia.
A goal that the club's fans celebrated cheerfully with fascist salutes, to accompany the name “Mussolini” that they chanted loudly. The latter were obviously referring to the founder of the fascist movement in the 1920s.
The young player decided to wear the name of his great-grandfather and his mother on his jersey, while in everyday life he uses his father's name: Floriani.
“There is nothing to comment on”, declared his mother Alessandra. “I prefer to stay away from that. My son does not want any form of interference in his life or business.”
“My great-grandfather Benito was a very important figure for Italy, but it's 2024 and the world has changed. There will always be some prejudices, but my work has nothing to do with it and it doesn't weigh on me”, the young player confided to the Gazzetta Dello Sport, comments relayed by 20 Minutes.
The young footballer was loaned by Lazio from Rome to Juve Stabia, a Serie B club.
