After a controversy for having turned on two teachers who criticized her for the lack of state aid after the cyclone, the minister continues with a new controversy, this time in Reunion.

After his visit to Mayotte, Prime Minister François Bayrou went to Reunion Island on Tuesday, December 31, as part of a trip still linked to the passage of Cyclone Chido in Mayotte. In front of the press, he detailed the death toll caused by the passage of the cyclone.

A remarkable interview since in the background, it is the Minister of National Education, Élisabeth Borne who appears with a big smile, almost laughing, while the Prime Minister evokes the dramatic toll of the cyclone.

“Laughing in such a serious situation…”

The sequence caused a reaction Internet users denouncing an “indecent attitude”. “Laughing in such a serious situation, even unintentionally, can easily be misinterpreted and give the impression of a lack of seriousness or empathy”, underlines another comment.

A complicated return to government for Élisabeth Borne since she had already been the target of a controversy in Mayotte. The minister had been challenged by two teachers on the situation and the upcoming aid from the State. The minister had cut short the discussion by turning on their heels and leaving.
