A passenger filmed what he believed to be his last moments of life aboard the plane that crashed in Kazakhstan on Christmas Day.
The crash of the Embraer 190 on Wednesday, December 25 in western Kazakhstan left nearly 38 dead. Three days after this terrible tragedy, the possibility of a missile or an error by Russian air defense is becoming clearer.
Among the 29 survivors of the plane crash, a passenger filmed what he believed to be his last moments of life. In a video widely shared on social networks, we can see the interior of the plane a few moments before it crashed.
The passenger films another sequence at the end of the video where we see the plane overturned and passengers trying to free themselves.
The plane was carrying 62 passengers and five crew members. Among the 29 survivors, three children, were hospitalized, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Transport, which indicates that there were 37 Azerbaijani nationals, six Kazakh nationals, three Kyrgyz citizens and 16 Russian citizens on board the plane.
~The media outlet FL360aero explained that the pilots had tried to land twice, in vain. On a third attempt, “there was an external explosion and a piece of shrapnel penetrated the fuselage.”
Shrapnel also “damaged one of the left flap fairings as well as the aircraft's tail and horizontal and vertical stabilizers”
Russian blogger and military expert Yuri Podoliaka assured on Telegram that the traces discovered were similar to those that could be caused by “an anti-aircraft missile system.” A former BEA expert confirmed anonymously that he had “the testimony of a passenger who allegedly received shrapnel in his life jacket”.
Air experts recall the memory of MH17, a Malaysia Airlines plane that exploded following a Russian military strike in Ukraine. Nearly 298 people have died.
Following the initial findings of an investigation opened by the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office, Azerbaijan Airlines announced on Friday that it was suspending flights to seven Russian cities.
The decision was taken “taking into account the preliminary results of the investigation into the Embraer 190 crash”, which left 38 people dead, and “risks to flight safety”, Azerbaijan Airlines explained in a statement, while specifying that it would continue to operate flights to Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The Kremlin has said it will not comment until the investigation into the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane is complete, amid widespread media reports that a Russian air defense missile was responsible.
“An investigation is underway. We believe we have no right to comment until the investigation is complete,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters
