The image is going around the world: in the rubble of homes ravaged by the Los Angeles fires, which are still spreading with a death toll of 16 now, a house stands alone on Malibu beach, as shown in a video from the New York Post, posted on the YouTube channel.

“I assumed we had lost our house,”, David Steiner, a 64-year-old multimillionaire, told the New York Post, who was informed by his neighbors of the “miracle.”

Which nevertheless owes nothing to chance, beyond the cost of the building, which was the subject of an investment of 9 million dollars : “It is made of stucco and stone and has a fireproof roof. And there are posts up to 50 feet deep in the bedrock to keep it stable in case powerful waves crash into the sea wall below,” the Texan explains, detailing the “ultra-robust construction” that saved his property. to protect the house from the effects of an earthquake: “To be completely honest with you, I never thought a wildfire could spread all the way to the Pacific Coast Highway and start a fire,” the billionaire said. “I figured if we ever had an earthquake, this would be the last thing to be destroyed. I honestly didn't think if there was a fire, this would be the last thing to be destroyed.”

Steiner, a retired attorney after a career with a waste company, Waste Management Inc., in Houston, was not at the scene at the time of the disaster.
