This Thursday, January 2, 2025, some of the Gard firefighters mobilized in Mayotte to help victims affected by Cyclone Chido returned to Gard soil. They had been gone since December 24, in particular to transfer the Escrim field hospital, initially based in Nîmes. Upon their return, they were greeted by Colonel Thierry Carret, director of SDIS30 and chief physician Philippe Agopian. “The relief force that arrived on site at the beginning of the week will work hard to continue this mission as close as possible to the disaster-stricken population”, specifies the SDIS 30.
On social media, the Gard firefighters also shared a video published by the Civil Security, showing the significant equipment installed at the Cavani stadium, nearby from the Mayotte hospital center. “More than 300 m3 of equipment” had to be transported, said Lieutenant Colonel Jacques Pagès, head of the Sdis mission. This reinforcement notably allowed, as of December 30, the care of nearly 1,300 patients in the Escrim field hospital.
