Indeed, many of the Eternal City's iconic monuments are currently closed to the public or offer a limited experience. From the famous Trevi Fountain to Piazza Navona and Ponte Sant'Angelo, scaffolding and fencing are everywhere. This situation can cause some disappointment among tourists who were expecting to discover these mythical places in all their splendor. The ongoing work is aimed at preparing the city for the 2025 Jubilee, a major religious event expected to attract record numbers of visitors. Rome's mayor said teams were working flat out to complete the renovations on time. The municipality has invested heavily in these requalification and modernization projects, with a budget of 4.8 billion euros.

The city hall promises that the renovated monuments, such as the Trevi Fountain, which will regain its crystal-clear water, and a footbridge allowing visitors to admire the near its 18th century sculptures, will be all the more impressive. Not to mention that access to the famous fountain should now be subject to a fee of 2 euros.

The only consolation prize is that while visiting Rome during this period of renovations may be disappointing for some tourists, it is essential to understand that these renovations are an investment in the future of the city.
