The world's second largest manufacturer has delayed several launches and according to information from the German media Handelsblatt, the coming months will not be particularly good for the company. Indeed, the Trinity project, which consists of an entire generation of electric cars, is not expected to see the light of day in Europe before 2032. In other words, Volkswagen will be far behind its competitors, and for a few more years.

During this time, the German car manufacturer is only afraid that other firms, including Tesla, will take market share from it, which will be very difficult to recover in the future. Today, the satisfaction rate of Tesla owners is one of the highest on the market.

How could these people, who are very happy with their car, change it in 10 years to go to a German brand, with a golden history certainly, but which has never yet proven itself on the electric car market ?

Volkswagen is playing it patiently

But on the other hand, the choice to postpone the launch of several models could be a good idea for Volkswagen. The German brand knows it only too well: it is not useful to launch a car too early on the market, otherwise it is a guaranteed commercial failure. Some models were great technical successes, well ahead of their time, but sometimes too much so.

However, the electric market is currently stagnating, if not declining, on the old continent. Volkswagen therefore saw fit to postpone the release of several models by a few months in order to keep up with buyers. The cars are ready, but now we have to wait for the right moment to sell them.

Electricity is still waiting

If this wait-and-see strategy could be interesting for the general public, it does not allow the time to position itself on the electric market. Volkswagen currently does not sell affordable electric cars. A point which should not change before 2026.

When we know that the French Peugeot and Renault dominate the sales statistics with inexpensive cars, we say to ourselves that the calculation is perhaps not the right one on the other side of the Rhine. With the arrival of the Renault R5 at the end of the year and the Citroën e-C3, the German brand has cause for concern.
