Vuelta 2024: the 6th stage and the general classification

Follow the information about the Tour of Spain 2024 with the result of the ;stage and the general classification.

The 2024 Vuelta is the 79th edition of the Tour of Spain cycling race and takes place from August 17 to September 8, 2024 between Lisbon in Portugal and Madrid. Primoz Roglic is the big favorite of this edition to save his season. Aleksandr Vlasov, Daniel Felipe Martinez and Florian Lipowitz could take on the leadership role at Red Bull – BORA hansgrohe if, by chance, the Slovenian is not in good enough shape. Joatildeo Almeida, 4th in the last Tour de France, and Adam Yates are also expected. Richard Carapaz (EF Education EasyPost), the recent best climber of the Tour, could aim for the general classification, as could Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain – Victorious), 5th in the Giro last May.

15:35 – 13 runners in the lead

&With less than 80 kilometres to go, the breakaway formed with 13 men in front, and a gap of more than three minutes. They are Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates), Mauri Vansevenant (T-Rex Quick-Step), Ben O'Connor, Clément Berthet (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Luca Vergallito (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Marco Frigo (Is rael-Premier Tech), Pelayo Sanchez (Movistar), Chris Harper (Jayco-AlUla), Cristian Rodriguez (Arkéa-B&B Hotels), Gijs Leermreize (DSM-Firmenich-PostNL), Urko Berrade and Pablo Castrillo (Kern Pharma).

14:32 – An intense start to the stage

While the pace of the peloton was rather relaxed yesterday, it was a completely different story on this 6th stage with an average pace of almost 44 km/h since the start despite steep roads, and especially attacks that followed one after the other. A group of 32 riders broke away but has less than a minute's lead over the peloton.

13:29 – The start in video

The start of this sixth stage of the Vuelta is decidedly atypical. The wearers of the different distinctive jerseys lead the peloton in this fictitious start inside the supermarket from Jerez de la Frontera.

12:30 – The start from a hypermarket

For the first time, the start of the sixth stage will be given from inside a hypermarket in Jerez de la Frontera. The Carrefour brand, partner of the event, will see the peloton and the race management car make the fictitious start from one of its stores. The Vuelta is used to atypical starts, such as in 2014 when the peloton set off from the deck of an aircraft carrier in Cadiz.

11:30 – The profile of today's stage

After a stage that arrived in the Seville furnace, the peloton continues its route in Andalusia with a sixth stage between Jeréz de la Frontera and Yunquera are designed for punchers. 185 kilometres long, today's stage should see the breakaway form after around fifty kilometres in the first difficulties of the day and go all the way.
