War in Ukraine: 500-gram warhead, artificial intelligence… what is the Mark 1, this mini-missile that kyiv covets ?

Spread the love

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has turned into a real war of arms development.

kyiv, which is showing some signs of weakness on the front, can count on the help of its allies. It is essential to counter the multiple assaults launched by the Russian army for almost three years. Although it is still in the development stage, the Mark 1, a missile produced by Estonia, could considerably help Volodymyr Zelensky's men, indicates the magazine Géo.

A faithful support

It is a weapon that Ukraine would like to have in its arsenal to counter Russia. This is the Mark 1, a mini-missile made in Estonia.

“The Mark 1 missile can engage targets at altitudes of up to two kilometers and has an artificial intelligence-based situational awareness platform to assist in threat detection and targeting,”, the CEO of Franckenburg Technologies, the manufacturer that produces the missile, told the media outlet Global Defense News.

What allows the Mark 1 to be so mobile is its weight: its warhead weighs just 500 grams, the magazine says. Thus, the main targets of the Estonian mini-missile would be the Iranian drones Shahed-131 (Geran-1 in Russian version) and Shahed-136 (Geran-2).

For the time being, the tests of this new weapon are continuing before being produced first by the dozens, then by the hundreds of models per week by the third quarter of 2025. Beyond the American, French or even German support, kyiv can count on the help of its faithful ally, Estonia. The country has thus strengthened its military production capacities.
