This Monday, January 20, 2025, Bertrand Blier passed away, at at the age of 85, as his entourage announced to AFP. The filmmaker, known for his self-proclaimed vulgarity and crude humor, had not settled down with age.
In February 1996, he gave an interview to Paris Match, on the occasion of the release of his film “Mon Homme“. He opened up without taboo about his relationship with provocation in cinema.
Bertrand Blier was a key filmmaker in French cinema. This Monday, January 20, 2025, he died at the age of 85. He notably directed Gérard Depardieu, Miou-Miou and Patrick Dewaere. The director, through his films, was known for his provocation. In 1996, in “Mon homme“, he staged Anouk Grinberg as a prostitute, “with a perverse voyeurism” explained Paris Match. The magazine spoke with Bertrand Blier on the occasion of the release of the film.

But everything keeps a frozen Playboy side“, he assured. “I don't like being told love stories where we pretend. I like the crudity of the look. When you make a film, you have to get to the bottom of your subject” he added the director.
Our colleagues then questioned Bertrand Blier about the fact that he filmed the sexual intercourse of his then partner, Anouk Grinberg. “You're going to accuse me of voyeurism ? I'm used to it. It's a false problem. I've always loved undressing women in the movies. But I admit that filming love scenes with your wife is unhealthy” he explained. The filmmaker also added : “We are not here to do tourism. The acting profession must not be comfortable. A great actor must have neither taboos nor limits“.
Bertrand Blier assumed “love to disturb“. “I refuse to fall into the pitfalls of French cinema, which has become a intellectual chic cinema” he had let out, without mind-bobbing. On the subject of the character of “the happy whore” that he has exploited a lot in his cinema, the filmmaker responded once again without restraint. “My films are often based on a paradox. If this girl were unhappy it would have no interest. (…) Everything that happens on the sidewalk is tragic. I know that. But I have also met call girls who did that with joy. I hate cinema in slippers“ he had declared.
