At the end of our first meeting with the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra, all the French press agreed on one thing: the Galaxy S24 Series breathe new life into the smartphone object.In a humming (not to mention boring) market, Samsung succeeds in restoring the nobility of our everyday companion. Not by adorning it with technologies straight out of the greatest science fiction films. But by integrating artificial intelligence worthy of ChatGPT at the service of the user.
With Galaxy AI, Samsung is reshuffling the cards and slapping Apple which preferred to focus on its elitist Apple Vision headset at the risk of falling behind in the AI field. The Galaxy S24s are therefore technically quite close to the S23s (like the iPhone 15s compared to the 14s) but open a new era in daily use. It may be a small detail for you, but for us it means a lot.

Samsung is often criticized for superimposing gadget functions unlike its American competitor who always has the good taste to design its products for everyday use. In 2024, we are witnessing a pole reversal. While the main novelty of the iPhone 15 lies in the addition of an Action button (if that's not a gimmick) and some design adjustments, the Galaxy S24 revolutionizes the # 8217;daily use of the smartphone. How ? Thanks to Galaxy AI, an artificial intelligence on which Korean engineers (from the United States) have been working since 2017.
To fully understand what Galaxy AI is, imagine ChatGPT integrated with the best mobile technologies available today. It makes you dream? Us too, and we had the chance to touch with our fingertips this major advance in the history of telephony.
Concretely, Samsung has focused on four major uses in users' daily lives: communicate, learn, work and create. Above all, the Korean was able to make its AI accessible instinctively, from any application. To do this, there are two methods: either via the keyboard for the functionalities that refer to it, or by a long press on the “Home” of the phone (or the virtual bar for those using navigation gestures).

Impossible you might say. Not with Galaxy AI. Samsung indeed integrates Instant translation a functionality allowing you to make calls (or send messages) with an interlocutor whose language you do not master. When initiating a call, your recipient is notified that your exchange is being handled by a virtual interpreter. When you speak, he hears your voice in your language. In the process, an artificial voice translates what you have just said into its language. And vice versa. 13 languages are supported at the moment, including French.
We carried out several tests, in English of course but also in Spanish, the second mother tongue of your humble tester. The results are simply impressive. The same goes for the translation of messages whose grammar and spelling are impeccable.
The messages, in fact, also benefit from the benefits of this AI. Message Assistant allows you to rephrase a message in a style suited to your interlocutor. You can choose between a professional, relaxed, social media-friendly style or even convert words into emojis. All without language barriers and with correction of your spelling mistakes. Impressive.

The first, Transcription Assistant, allows you to record a meeting and transcribe it from the Dictaphone application . The AI is capable of distinguishing up to 10 different speakers, recording a memo, making a summary, formatting it or even translating it. All this, locally, and in the 13 languages supported by Galaxy AI.
You're more of a note taker? Notes Assistant allows you to compile, summarize and format (titles, subtitles, bullet points, etc.) your notes (including those taken by hand with dirty handwriting). During our testing, we found that it was essential to write notes of at least 200 characters for the AI to do its job. A detail that does not dampen our enthusiasm. Beyond the features themselves, the speed of execution of the AI literally amazed us.

Never has information been so present in our daily lives. Faced with the profusion of content, Samsung has chosen to make this use simpler, in order to save even more time.
Circle to search, developed in partnership with Google, allows you to obtain information about an area of an image by surrounding it. A Google search is carried out (using the Google Lens engine) to access the Google results.
From the photo of’ a mosaic, we were able to find a historical monument. You are interested in your favorite influencer's clothing item, circle it and access Google search results to buy it. Very impressive, this functionality also suggests limits linked to private life. A friend can take a picture of himself telling you that he is in the Bahamas, by circling the image you can discover that he is in fact at Fort-Mahon Plage (this myth!).
L’Web Assistant, is a real time saver for information addicts. From an article (randomly one of our great editors on Presse-citron), press the Galaxy AI button and get a point-by-point summary of the article's main information. A revolution for users but also for the media who will undoubtedly have to think about a different economic model since no one will read the articles in their entirety (or very few users).

Whether we like Samsung or not, we must recognize that there is no lack of will to make the smartphone a relevant content creation tool. With Galaxy AI, the Korean pushes the cursors a little further by offering retouching options powered by artificial intelligence to make editing photos and videos easier than ever.
With Retouch suggestions (feature available locally) , the Galaxy S24s are able to automatically suggest edits to your photos. Better, as soon as a photo is integrated into the gallery (those you receive by message for example), it can benefit from this tool, even if the photo was not taken by a Galaxy S24 .
Generative retouching is used to recreate a background on a cropped image. For example, it happens that a piece of sky disappears when cropping an image. Samsung's AI is capable of reconstituting the hues of the initial photo. Impressive in theory, this feature showed quite variable results when we got started. In Samsung's defense, we did not have models ready for market, so a firmware update is planned before the official release. We will therefore study all of this during our in-depth tests.

Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra do not change many of their predecessors. Samsung takes the design of the S23 and improves a mastered recipe with small touches. Thus, the Galaxy S24 Ultra features a flat screen (a first) and a titanium chassis like who-you-know< /em>. All three models have their screen borders further reduced.
More robust thanks to the integration of the latest generation Gorilla Armor glass, the Galaxy S24 all integrate an OLED LTPO screen (1-120 Hz) with a maximum brightness of 2,600 nits ( compared to 1,750 nits last year). Samsung has also worked on the lifespan of its new terminals with a greener design and 7 years of major updates, thus surpassing Apple's record (6 years) and equaling the longevity of Google's Pixel 8 .

Under the hood, the Galaxy S24s are not all in the same boat. The S24 and S24+, models “daily”, fueled by the Exynos 2400 when the S24 Ultra inherits the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the latest processor from Qualcomm. The Ultra model also benefits from more advanced photographic equipment. In detail:
Samsung regulars will note that the only major change is in the Galaxy S24 Ultra's telephoto lenses, now capable of 3x and 5x optical zoom in full sensor, and 2x and 10x zoom in crop with optical quality. Samsung assures that night photos are more beautiful than ever and that AI intervention improves overall quality. Our handling does not allow us to explore all these aspects in depth (even less on unfinalized models), we will analyze them during a more complete test.
