While President-elect Donald Trump covets the territory of Greenland, under Danish domination, the Greenlandic Prime Minister spoke out about this American interest.

While Donald Trump had declared “not being able to ensure”that he would not annex the territory of Greenland, Mùte B. Egede, Greenlandic Prime Minister responded to the attacks of the American President-elect in a biannual meeting this Friday, January 10. He was notably accompanied by the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, Denmark being sovereign over this territory, as reported by the American media CBS.

“We want to be Greenlanders!”

In front of the cameras and journalists present, the Prime Minister declared that “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders. We don't want to be Danish, we don't want to be American. We want to be Greenlanders,” while specifying that she had not yet spoken with Donald Trump, but was open to discussions on what “unites us.”

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that Trump's interest had revived the issue of Greenlandic independence, showing “the great interest in Greenland”. “The United States is our closest ally and we will do everything to continue a strong cooperation”, the Danish minister added. Earlier in the week, she said she did not “believe” in a forced annexation.

As Donald Trump continues to stake his claim on Danish territory, her son flew to the island earlier this week in a TRUMP-branded plane, handing out Make America Great Again caps.
