Starting Tuesday, November 12, temperatures are plummeting in France, causing snowfall in some departments.

While dry weather has been maintained in recent days, the weather is changing this week. The deterioration that began this Tuesday, with the arrival of a cold drop, a pocket of very cold air from Germany, is continuing. Under this influence, showers will be noticeable over 2/3 of France, with stormy rain in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Corsica in the middle of the week. On Wednesday, it is in Languedoc-Roussillon that significant levels of rain are accumulating. Conversely, the weather is finally clearing up in the northwest after endless days of grey weather. Wind is also expected in the Mediterranean.

As La Chaine Météo specifies, temperatures are also falling, dropping 2 to 3 degrees below seasonal norms this week. Maximum temperatures are dropping between 4 and 8 degrees in the southern half against 2 degrees in the northeast. It is between 8 and 11 degrees this Tuesday afternoon with a very cool feeling with the north wind in the north and the mistral in the south.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the cold intensifies with lows close to zero and temperatures struggling to exceed 10 degrees in the afternoon. Frost and white frost set in from Wednesday morning. This first cold snap of autumn is quite normal in mid-November. It is therefore time to take out the warm clothes from the cupboards and prepare for winter.

Another element to take into account: snow is falling in the mid-mountains, especially between Tuesday and Wednesday. A certain deficit was noted until now following the mild weather that had reigned since mid-October, melting the first white blanket that fell in September. There was nothing left below 2600 meters.

According to La Chain&eacute Weather, it is snowing this week from 1000 meters in the Vosges and 1200 meters in the Pyrenees. From the Jura to the Northern Alps, between 10 and 15 cm of snow is expected. only 1500m above sea level. On the Alpine relief, to the south, snowfalls appear from 1200m above sea level. Snow also arrives in the Pyrenees, with sustained precipitation, snowy from 1000m, “with a nice layer of snow expected from 1500m” this week, adds Météo France.

Seven departments have also been placed on yellow alert by Météo-France Tuesday, for snow and ice in the south of France: the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the Hautes-Pyrénées, the Haute-Garonne, the Ariège, the Hautes-Alpes, the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the Alpes-Maritimes.

This snowy spell could be short-lived, with a return to mild weather towards the weekend. However, this rise in temperatures is announced as temporary. According to Météo-France, temperatures next week will be "slightly below seasonal values".
