After two particularly successful feature films, Stephen King's It Saga will be entitled to a nine-episode series that will be broadcast on the Max platform in 2025. We already have a lot of information on this project, so it's a good time to present it to you in more detail.
The story of Welcome to Derry should take place in the 1960s in the city of the same name. So this is a prequel to the story if we believe the information from Variety. Enough to learn more about Pennywise's origins and immerse yourself in a slightly different atmosphere.
In November 2022, Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Programming at Max, was already teasing:
We worked closely with Jason Fuchs, Brad Caleb Kane, Andy Muschietti, and Barbara Muschietti… They are so familiar with this mythology that they have a perfect command of the narrative around these characters as well as the insane scares they set up. (…) They come up with all sorts of ways to terrify us.
Even before the series was made official, Stephen King was also enthusiastic:
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000Andy and Barbara Muschietti are going to do “Welcome to Derry,” they’re talking about it anyway. And they have a sort of verbal agreement with HBO Max. It’s an interesting possibility to do that. They’ve talked about a prequel. Which I think is a good idea. I’d like to see what Pennywise was doing 27 years before the ’50s. Or, I guess it would be the ’80s, because they’ve updated the story.
Also, Andy Muschietti emphasized this universe in an interview: “IT is an epic story that contains a multitude of things, far beyond what we’ve been able to explore in our films. We look forward to sharing the depths of Steve's novel, with all its heart, humour, humanity and horror”.
The good news is that Bill Skarsgård will be back to play Pennywise. Excellent in previous feature films, the latter steals the show in this role that partly revealed him to the general public. We will also have the pleasure of meeting Chris Chalk (Perry Mason), Taylour Paige (Beverly Hills Cop 4), Jovan Adepo (Babylon), and James Remar (Oppenheimer).
Given the first elements we have, are you (like us) enthusiastic about this initiative ? Let us know in the comments.
