What if Apple replaced your Mac with a “giant iPad” ?

Even though it doesn't yet offer a foldable iPhone or iPad, Apple is said to be secretly working on products with foldable screens. And recently, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who is one of the most reliable sources of unofficial information about Apple, published a new article on the company's projects. According to this, the Apple brand could develop a “giant iPad” with a foldable screen.

A 20-inch foldable screen ?

More specifically, it would be a product that, when opened, would have a gigantic 20-inch screen. Closed, it would look like two iPad Pros stacked together. And apparently, this product could be offered as an alternative to computers, since Apple would integrate elements of both the iPad and Macs into it. However, the operating system could still be iPadOS or a variant.

Otherwise, in addition to having XXL dimensions, the foldable screen could also not have any traces of folds. At least, that would be Apple's goal, which would like to launch this new device in 2028. Currently, all products with a foldable screen still have this trace in the middle. But, as usual, caution is advised, since this is unofficial information. In any case, Mark Gurman's article is reminiscent of another rumor that recently indicated that Apple could launch a screen with an 18.8-inch foldable screen between 2028 and 2030.

The PC of the future ?

For the moment, PCs with a foldable screen are still rare, but they already exist. And among the models available on the market, there is the Zenbook Fold OLED, a €4,000 computer that we had the opportunity to test in 2022. However, this machine is a little smaller than the giant iPad mentioned in Mark Gurman's article, since its screen is only 17.3 inches. In any case, it is a rather interesting form factor, which can redefine the way we work when we are on the move.

  • Apple is reportedly continuing to work on foldable screens, and its plans include a giant iPad with a 20-inch screen
  • This device would take some elements from the iPad and some elements from the MacBook
  • Apple would also be planning to launch a product with a screen that has no trace of folds
  • The firm would be considering launching this device in 2028
