What if the State paid for your dating apps thanks to CAF assistance ? The idea is launched

France is facing an unprecedented demographic challenge. For more than two years, the country has recorded a constant decline in births. Faced with this alarming situation, some rather surprising proposals are emerging. Among them, one idea has made headlines: what if the State financed your subscriptions to dating sites? 63~

A falling birth rate

The figures are clear. In 2023, the number of births in France fell below 700,000, compared to more than 800,000 ten years earlier. This dizzying drop worries experts. Julien Damon, a renowned sociologist and specialist in family policies, is sounding the alarm. In his essay “The Battles of Birth Rates”, he describes the current trend as “worrying”.

However, France remains one of the best students in the West in terms of fertility. But this status is not enough to reassure demographers. The country of the baby boom sees its birth rate crumble year after year. Faced with this observation, sometimes surprising solutions emerge.

When love becomes a matter of state

Julien Damon proposes a radical approach: directly involving the state in the love lives of the French. His idea? Create a “great public service of the meeting”. The objective is clear: to promote the formation of couples, the basis of the birth rate. Concretely, the former director of research at the National Family Allowance Fund (CAF) imagines two scenarios:

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000
  1. Launch a dating platform managed by the State, in addition to or replacing existing applications such as Tinder.
  2. Distribute checks or vouchers allowing free access to private dating sites.

These proposals may seem far-fetched at first glance. However, they are part of an already existing logic of public intervention. “The CAF already funds family mediation in the event of separation”, the sociologist points out. “Why wouldn't they fund marriage counseling ?”

The initiative is not limited to the virtual world. For those who prefer face-to-face meetings, Julien Damon suggests organizing events in bars, restaurants and gyms. These meetings would be supported by the public authorities, thus creating opportunities for meetings in real life.

This global approach aims to adapt to all profiles. Whether you are a fan of applications or nostalgic for “old-school flirting”, the State could therefore play the matchmaker.

So, ready to swipe with the blessing of the Republic ?

  • A sociologist suggests bringing the State into the great game of love
  • This would involve creating a large national dating app and funding private apps like Tinder
  • The goal is to boost the birth rate in France
