“We have decided to set up a single platform on which users will be able to report, file a complaint, and get in direct contact with a gendarme or a cyber police officer”, announced the Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, responsible for Daily Security, Nicolas Daragon, on Europe1 on Thursday, November 28, 2024.

What is this platform for? ?

Named 17Cyber, the platform was officially launched on December 17. It allows individuals, professionals or local authorities to be put in contact by chat with a contact from Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr.

This will be tasked with identifying the type of online attack, making a diagnosis and assisting the victim by giving personalized advice. Qualified service providers will also be mobilized to resolve the cyberattack, explains Figaro.

Victims can thus speak with a gendarme or a police officer specialized in cybercrime. It is also possible to receive support in order to file a complaint or report.

A digital equivalent of the 17 police secours

17 Cyber will be available at all times: 24/7. Developed in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior, the number is a digital equivalent of the 17 police secours.

For example, a person receiving a suspicious email accusing them of possessing child pornography images will be able to contact a contact to describe the attack.

Another example: if a person is a victim of ransomware, they should not under any circumstances pay the ransom demanded by the hackers. By contacting 17 Cyber, they can be redirected to the right assistance.

Each year, nearly 300,000 complaints are filed concerning cyberbullying and phishing, but also that 90% of citizens who have an internet account have already been disrupted by phishing or attempts.
