Have you heard of “Disneybounding” ? If not, you should listen up, because this practice could brighten up your next visit to a Disney theme park. It simply involves coming dressed in an outfit that resembles that of your favorite character.

Be careful, however, this is not about reproducing the hero's costume identically, but rather opting for an outfit that is reminiscent of the latter without violating copyright. This precision is at least important, because the parks of the big-eared company formally prohibit cosplaying of its characters to visitors over the age of 14.

How to succeed in your “Disneybounding” ?

As for the term itself, it was invented in 2011 by Leslie Kay, who ran the eponymous Tumblr blog. She would reveal visuals of outfits worn during her visits. Since then, the phenomenon has only grown.

There are countless contents dedicated to this practice on Instagram and TikTok. If you want to get started, Jeremy Singh, better known under the pseudonym “Jeremy The Tea&#8221 on the Chinese platform, gives his own advice. Quoted by USA Today, he explains thus:

When you're first starting out with Disneybounding, I find that color palettes are key to success. Finding solid colored pieces that match the color palette of the characters you want to embody is a great way to start your “Disneybounding” journey.

And the content creator adds: “When coming up with new design ideas and Disneybounds, I try to go beyond basic color palettes and play around with lots of props. From various headdresses, corsets, bows, bow ties, sunglasses, capes and gloves, I have amassed quite a collection of accessories for Disneybounds”.

Cinderella, Mickey, Minnie, or even Ariel and Pluto, our colleagues have had fun describing the best disguises and how to go about it in this fun guide to be found here.

Things to remember:

  • The “Disneybounding” consists of coming dressed in an outfit that resembles that of your character in a Disney park
  • This practice should not be confused with cosplay
  • Disney strictly prohibits this latter to visitors aged over 14
