“When I looked in the mirror, I was shocked to see that I was completely yellow”, a 44-year-old Dutch woman tells the daily newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, as reported by RTL info.

A week before Christmas, Elise Groene felt muscle pain and great fatigue. She noticed that her urine was abnormally dark a few days later and her abdominal pain “continued to get worse”, she explains.

Acute hepatitis A

The forty-year-old decides to see a doctor. The blood test reveals acute hepatitis A. The mother suspects she contracted this infection after eating frozen blueberries marketed by Albert Heijn, a product she consumes regularly.

The case worries other consumers. In agreement with the Belgian Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (Afsca), the supermarket chain has recalled these blueberries.

Do not consume

“The product could be contaminated with hepatitis A. Its consumption could lead to health problems. In the event of health problems, we advise you to consult your doctor”, states the recall conso.

Albert Heijn asks customers not to consume products with a BBD up to and including 14 April 2026 and to return them to a store where they will be refunded.

“We are doing everything we can to help our customers”, the brand stressed, quoted by RTL info.
