When industry and ecology promise to move forward hand in hand

This January 31st, the Synécho project was launched. The initiative, launched by the Pays Cœur d'Hérault, notably aims to promote and cultivate the circular economy.

“Syn” for synergy, and éccho for circular economy in Cœur d’Hérault. Syn’éccho*: the name was chosen this morning, by a show of hands, by the economic stakeholders* of the territory following a brainstorming session led by the Pays Cœur d’Hérault. And, in the premises of the Pole intercommunal des eaux du Clermontais, ideas flowed. Because, with a view to developing a circular economy that intends to make industry and ecology rhyme, companies in the sector are betting on the winner.

Concrete examples

Concrete example of a partnership that works at the local level: The Paganoni company, based in Lodève since 1939, sells wood to the Clermontaise company Sutra Charpente. This one supplies its wood waste, offcuts, shavings, etc. to the Granuléro company which manufactures pellets in Saint-Jean-de-fos. “These pellets are then sold locally in the region and, in particular, in Lodève at Paganoni. The loop is closed” , illustrates Annick Ferry, eco manager at the Pays. “The country has been working for a long time on the virtues of the circular economy. It is about promoting a cross dynamic, creating synergy between all the players, at the local level” , continues Nicole Morère, vice-president of Pays Cœur d’Hérault, delegated to sustainable regional planning.

Call for projects

“This helps reduce expenses in the operation of the company. Why go looking for materials if they are available nearby?”, asks the elected official. Several local examples demonstrate the relevance of a model that is just waiting to develop. “The Maman Natur’elle company is one of those that needs to ship products. Rather than buying new packaging, they offer to recover and use second-hand packaging produced by companies in the area.” Water, energy, waste, the Syn’éccho approach proposes to move forward on these three themes and a call for projects is launched with the local economic pool. Because, before exchanging raw materials, it is appropriate to exchange ideas.
