The new regulations imposed by the world table tennis circuit led to the departure of the Chinese Olympic champions, who received the support of French table tennis players.

The small world of table tennis is in full swing. After the decision of the two Chinese Olympic champions, Fan Zhendong and his compatriot Chen Meng to withdraw from the WTT circuit, because of the new rules that impose heavy fines on table tennis players who do not show up for WTT events, they have received support, in particular from French table tennis players.

“It is time for real change”

“Statement not accepted. Telling the facts without changing anything is what you do. We are losing icons of our sport because of these “rules”. We cannot ignore the fact that this does not help the players. It is time for a REAL change”, writes Toulouse's Simon Gauzy on his Twitter account.

A view shared by Montpellier's Félix Lebrun, who Fan Zhendong had eliminated in the semi-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The younger of the Lebrun brothers split a supportive emoticon in response to his teammate's tweet in the French team, imitated by his older brother. It remains to be seen whether this support will change the WTT's position or not.
