It’s Tuesday that Americans will go to the polls to elect their president. Even though the winner may not be announced for several days, election nights are being organized all over Quebec for this election whose outcome is more than uncertain.

In a bar

Whether it's to celebrate or to be consoled, fans have different options offered by bars: several have planned special programming for Tuesday so that visitors can experience the American election night in a group.

In the city, the organizations Force Jeunesse and Connexion internationale Montréal will hold a results viewing party “in a relaxed but committed atmosphere” starting at 8:30 p.m. at the Nestor bar, on Saint-Hubert Street. A few doors down, the Le Vestiaire bar will provide American politics fans with a drink by broadcasting the results of this “epic battle” starting at 7 p.m.

Democrats Abroad Quebec is offering events starting at 7 p.m. at Hurley’s Irish Pub on Crescent Street and at 8:30 p.m. at Sala Rossa on Saint-Laurent Boulevard. In Brossard, the group is meeting at 7 p.m. at Piazza Pazza on Taschereau Boulevard.

Bar le Über in Montreal’s Ahuntsic neighbourhood is guaranteeing an “evening full of emotion” starting at 6 p.m.

In Gatineau, Minotaure will be broadcasting election night starting at 7 p.m. “You can bring food, we’ll provide tissues,” organizers say. The student bar at the Université du Québec en Outaouais, Le Tonik, will begin its event at 3 p.m.

In Sherbrooke, King Hall will do the same at 7 p.m., as will Le Tapageur, which invites its customers to come in “jacket and tie” starting at 5 p.m.

With experts

University experts will be appearing on news networks all evening to comment on the results as they come to light.

For those who would like to attend election nights in person with experts, several colleges have planned events to provide food for thought. At Cégep du Vieux Montréal, it will be at the L’Exode student café starting at 6 p.m.

Elsewhere in Quebec, Cégep de Shawinigan is organizing an evening at the student lounge that will start at 7:30 p.m. At Cégep de Sorel-Tracy, it will be at the Guy-Bélanger auditorium at 7 p.m.; at Cégep de Jonquière, at the Polyvalente room starting at 7:30 p.m.

With the first woman to become president of the United States, the organization Audace au féminin and the Bureau de la communauté haïtienne de Montréal will hold an evening in the Rosemont district where, in addition to following the results, participants will have the opportunity to listen to experts discuss topics such as women’s rights and their place in politics.

On TV and radio

On television, Radio-Canada will broadcast a special program starting at 5:55 p.m. on ICI RDI, on ICI Tou.tv and on the Web, as well as on ICI Télé starting at 10 p.m. On the radio, election night will begin at 7 p.m. on ICI Première. On LCN, the special programming will be launched at 6:15 p.m. and broadcast on TVA starting at 10 p.m.

Obviously, the American networks will only have eyes for this historic election. On CNN and Fox News, coverage will take place all day long. On MSNBC, the special will officially begin at 6 p.m., but all of the shows are expected to have a strong election flavor.

The American public television network PBS will begin its special programming at 7 p.m., as will public radio NPR.
