At a time when people tend to use the same smartphone or PC for longer, durability has never been more important. And to help you make informed choices, FNAC DARTY is publishing its new after-sales service barometer. While there are other product rankings, such as iFixit’s on repairability, this barometer is interesting because it is based on a different calculation. And furthermore, FNAC DARTY does not classify products individually, but rather brands.
The barometer was designed with HARRIS Interactive and is based on three data sources: a FNAC DARTY customer study of 9,933 respondents, a study of 1,149,744 breakdowns from August 2023 to July 2024 and an analysis of 9,582 repairs at Repair and Run for scooters. And the calculation takes into account both reliability (a product that does not break down often) and reparability. According to FNAC DARTY's explanations, for a product to be considered repairable, spare parts must be available for long periods and at affordable prices. Furthermore, trades must be rare.
While the barometer provides data for around a hundred product families, we are particularly interested in the smartphone, PC and smartwatch categories, in which the Apple brand is the sustainability champion.
