We were both trying to quit or one of us was trying. It was terrible”, he admitted at the time. The general public was unaware at the time that the singer had had a passionate love affair with another person several years before.

“We were friends. We were lovers. We were each other's everything,”, Robyn Crawford recounts in the book A song for you: my life with Whitney Houston, published in 2019. The Bodyguard star nevertheless wanted to end & their romance after being recruited by a major record company.
“She came to my house after signing her contract, a Bible in her hand, to explain to me that we shouldn't have physical relations anymore because it would make our journey on Earth even more complex and that, if it got out, it would turn against us”, explains Whitney Houston's ex-lover in her book of memories.
The singer also reportedly feared public opinion: “She said that if people learned about our story, they would use it against us.” Both ended up marrying men and leading lives as mothers. Exhausted by arguments with Bobby Brown, Robyn Crawford would later resign from her position as artistic director of the woman who privately went by the nickname “Nippy”.
