Face à la pénurie de défenseur, Montpellier vient de faire signer le défenseur international serbe Nikola Maksimovic (32 ans), libre depuis son départ du club turc d’Hatayspo.
Montpellier was quick to react. After the defeat against Toulouse at La Mosson on Sunday (0-3), the worst defense in Ligue 1 turned to Serbian Nikola Maksimovic to try to plug the gaps.

Serbia, Italy, Turkey
Having played for several clubs in Serbia, it was at Red Star Belgrade that this large central defender revealed himself to the general public a little over 10 years ago. It was at this time that his profile as a tough central defender who was rather comfortable in the recovery seduced many recruiters from “calcio”, a regular gateway for Balkan players to the top 5 European championships.
On the other side of the Alps, Nikola has successively worn the colours of Torino FC, Napoli and Genoa, interspersed with a brief stint at Spartak Moscow (Russia). “I am delighted to sign here, for this great club, and I am very happy to be back with a team after my time in Turkey. Several players from the former Yugoslavia have played at MHSC, including Petar Škuletić, who is a friend and he has only told me good things about this club”, he explains in a press release sent by the club.
“As I spent 10 years in Italy, I really like tactics. With my experience, I hope that I will be able to help the team get out of this difficult period, he adds. I am also looking forward to meeting the supporters. We need their support, even more so in these complicated times. It is only together, united that we will succeed in getting out of this.”
MHSC hopes to be able to count on him from the trip to Le Havre, this Sunday, November 3, if they qualify in time.
