In 2024, Google is under pressure from all sides. On the one hand, its flagship product, the search engine, continues to be threatened by artificial intelligence laboratories. And on the other, the company is facing unprecedented regulatory pressure. As a reminder, this year, OpenAI launched its own search engine. And Google must also face competition from the AI-based search engine of the startup Perplexity. Otherwise, the firm lost its antitrust case in the United States. And the American justice system must now determine the measures to be taken to prevent practices deemed illegal. As we mentioned in a previous article, the Department of Justice has recommended a breakup that would force Google to separate itself from its Chrome browser.

Google will bet even more on Gemini

The good news for the firm is that it is equipped to face its competitors in the AI race. Google already has a competitor to ChatGPT, called Gemini, which competes with other AI models. The firm has already deployed AI Overviews, a feature that answers Google Search users' questions using generative AI. And it has many innovative projects, such as NotebookLM, or even AI agent projects that will use generative artificial intelligence to perform tasks in place of the user (such as ordering online or making a reservation).

Nevertheless, in order not to be overwhelmed by events, in 2025, Google employees will have to stay focused. And according to a CNBC article, this was recently recalled by Sundar Pichai, the CEO of the Mountain View firm, during a meeting. “The stakes are high,” he reportedly said, also explaining that 2025 would be a critical year for Google.“I think it’s really important that we understand the urgency of this moment and the need to move faster as a company,”, the Google CEO reportedly also explained. Regarding artificial intelligence, he reportedly explained that employees should focus on using technology to solve real user problems. Sundar Pichai also reportedly told employees that the group’s priority would be to accelerate the deployment of Gemini AI to consumers.

Boldness!

The Google CEO also reportedly asked employees to be bold, not failing to make a reference to the company’s founders. “In the early days of Google, if you look at how the founders built our data centers, they were really cutting edge in every decision they made,”, he reportedly said. “Often, constraints lead to creativity. Not all problems are always solved by the workforce.
