For several long months now, AI has been able to generate just about anything and (especially) anything. In addition to the essential ChatGPT, generally used for writing, users can also use the services of Copilot or Grok, the AI “made in Elon Musk“, particularly for image generation. An AI that doesn't spare the music industry, since some programs are able to create complete tracks in a handful of seconds.

A tool to fight against AI at Deezer

On the Deezer side, they have decided to go to war against this same AI-generated content. For the French platform, it is about reporting AI-generated content in order to increase transparency for users and protect the rights of creators. To do this, Deezer has developed a new tool to detect AI-generated content, in order to avoid as much as possible seeing AI disrupt the musical ecosystem.

It must be said that around 10,000 tracks entirely generated by AI are delivered to the platform every day, or around 10% of the daily content delivered. Still! Deezer specifies however that “Most of the AI-generated tracks delivered daily are never listened to on Deezer, but they nevertheless dilute the catalog and can be used for fraudulent purposes.

The new tool can thus detect artificially created music from several generative models such as Suno and Udio, with the possibility of adding detection capabilities for virtually any other similar tool, as long as there is access to some example generated tracks. Additionally, Deezer promises to have made significant progress in creating a generalized system that can detect AI-generated content without specific datasets for training.

For Deezer, this is about promoting fairness and transparency in the music ecosystem, and the company is also on a mission to continue developing the capabilities of its technology to include the detection of voices generated by deepfakes.

In addition to the desire to preserve as much as possible the ears of listeners of content generated by AI, nearly 25% of creators' revenues would be threatened (by AI) by 2028, which could represent up to 4 billion euros by that date.

Recently, Deezer and Sacem announced their association for fairer remuneration of copyright, by changing the current remuneration model.
