Why Free is removing Netflix Essentials from its Freebox Delta offer

At the beginning of the summer, Canal+ subscribers learned some very sad news about the Disney+ streaming platform. The group informed those who were already subscribed to an offer including Disney+ that their subscription would be modified and downgraded to “standard mode with ads“. Today, it is Free that is announcing a major change concerning its Delta offer, which does not involve Disney+, but a certain Netflix.

Netflix with the Freebox Delta, it's (almost) over

Since the end of last year, the Netflix Essential subscription (720p/1 screen) is no longer available in France, replaced by the offer with advertising, at €5.99. A gradual elimination that Free must apply with regard to its Freebox Delta offer. This will result in a subscription to the Netflix offer with advertising, instead of the Essential offer, available since 2018.

As of September 26, 2024, you will automatically benefit from Netflix Standard with ads included with your Freebox offer” explains the ISP in an email sent very recently to the subscribers concerned. The change will be made automatically, and all subscribers will see their Netflix subscription migrate to this advertising offer which has more than 40 million subscribers.

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000

Please note that Free will still allow users to switch back to a Netflix Standard or 4K offer, with a preferential rate. Thus, by going through the Subscriber Area, users will be able to choose the Netflix Standard offer in Full HD quality, for €7.50 per month, instead of €13.49. As for the Netflix 4K offer, it will be available at the price of €14 per month (compared to €19.99).

To smooth things over, Free indicates that this change will allow subscribers to enjoy a better image (Full HD compared to 720p), but also to watch (and download) Netflix content on two screens simultaneously, compared to just one with the default subscription. Obviously, in return, you will have to accept watching a few advertisements.

Finally, let's remember that Netflix is no longer just a streaming service for films and series, since it has also been offering, for many months now, a catalogue of mobile games to its subscribers (including GTA titles). The platform is notably offering its flagship series in video games (Emily in Paris, Selling Sunset…), and should soon launch a new cloud gaming offer, which will allow it to offer more titles.
