It has become a reflex for many users. We charge our smartphone, computer or any device, and when it is finally fully charged, we pick it up and continue with our lives… Without unplugging the poor charger! Almost everyone has made this mistake at least once, but for some, it is a real habit. Unfortunately, it is very bad and you have every interest in quickly abandoning it.

Leaving your charger plugged in is risky and it is detrimental to the planet, your wallet and your equipment. We explain everything in this article.

It's time to unplug your charger

When you leave your charger plugged in empty, that is to say without it being used to charge your smartphone or tablet, you are taking an unnecessary risk. Indeed, it is possible that your charger overheats and this can cause a fire. This is particularly risky if you have an old charger, if it is of poor quality or if your adapter is damaged or counterfeit.

Rest assured, this is a low probability. But it remains a possibility! It is better to avoid a fire and get into the habit of unplugging your charger when your device is at 100%.

Leaving your charger plugged in is also a bad habit for both your wallet and the planet. Of course, your electricity bill will not go down significantly and the planet will not be saved tomorrow if you get into the habit of unplugging your charger. However, it can have a positive impact in the longer term and on a larger scale. As we know, all the little things are good to do to reduce energy waste and your expenses. Not only can you save a few euros over the year, but you also reduce (a little) your carbon footprint.

That's not all. You definitely need to get into the habit of unplugging your charger once you've finished using it. Indeed, leaving it plugged in for a while can impact your safety, your wallet, the planet, and also the lifespan of your devices. By constantly using it in vain, you increase the wear and tear on the electronic components of your charger, you gradually reduce its charging performance, and thus, you reduce its overall lifespan. By unplugging your charger, you can fight against planned obsolescence and make your equipment last a little longer. Don't miss out on it!
