Why YouTubers are conquering cinema ?

On YouTube, new trends are emerging. Today, content creators are trying to prioritize quality over quantity, like Squeezie. At the beginning of the year, the number 1 on YouTube had chosen to take a break for several months. Since his return, the videographer has offered less content but has taken care with his releases. And it seems that this does not displease his audience.

A few months ago, it was Inoxtag's turn to take a break… But not for the same reasons. Indeed, the one who represents the new generation of content creators had chosen to move away from the Internet and abandon social networks to set off to conquer Everest.

After a desire to break free from the barriers of the web, with the multiplication of physical events organized to diversify and meet the expectations of their community, content creators seem to be taking movie theaters by storm. Over the past three months, three YouTubers have each presented their respective documentaries. A new trend for videographers ?

YouTube in theaters

Absent for months, Inoxtag has returned to the spotlight through the front door. After climbing to the roof of the world, the videographer wanted to tell his epic story through a 2h30 documentary. While the video is, of course, available for free on YouTube, this return is marked by an exclusive broadcast in movie theaters in several cities in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Quebec and even Morocco on Friday, September 13, 2024. In the dark rooms, 340,000 spectators are there. Enough to arouse admiration.

In the last 10 days, these are two more content creators who have infiltrated French movie theaters. While they have not generated the same excitement as that caused by Inoxtag with Kaisen, Mastu and Ludoc have nevertheless created two separate events, each on their own.

On YouTube, Mastu is followed by 6.43 million. That's all! At 27, the content creator took part in the DTR Fight this Saturday, December 7 at Paris la Défense Arena. This boxing event organized by RebeuDeter brought together 10 videographers, who originally knew nothing about it. Facing Djilsi, Mastu emerged victorious from his fight. In 7 months to become a boxer, broadcast exclusively this Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the Pathé d'Angers, where he is from, Mastu looks back on his experience. 400 people were present to discover this documentary in preview, now available on his YouTube channel, proof of a real demand from subscribers.

This Tuesday, December 17, 2024, it is the turn of content creator and co-founder of Studio Bagel Ludoc (almost 400,000 subscribers on YouTube) to meet his community in theaters. The subject is completely different: far from retracing an exploit, like Inoxtag and Mastu, Ludoc reveals his investigation of several years on a pedophile, whose path he crossed somewhat by chance. Here again, the theaters are full at the mk2 Bibliothèque in Paris. The thrilling documentary In the shadow of Ludoc was seen by nearly a thousand people at the cinema.

Content creators and cinemas alike have something to gain. For videographers, seeing their projects broadcast in movie theaters allows them to establish a certain legitimacy for their work. In addition, it allows their subscribers to introduce them to their friends and family and, at the same time, to reach a new audience. For their part, movie theaters have the opportunity to rejuvenate the average age of spectators. Indeed, 15-24 year olds are going to the cinema less and less. That is why mk2 launched the YouTube Ciné-Club label in 2023. In recent months, this label has been increasingly successful.

After Inoxtag, Mastu and Ludoc, it would not be surprising to see other content creators seize this desire to have their projects discovered in cinemas. Who will be next ?
