Will the ecological bonus be extended until 2027 ? or not?

Several European countries have renounced essential subsidies in recent years to stimulate the energy transition. We can cite Germany which completely abolished its bonus in 2023, and reductions everywhere else, from the Netherlands to Spain, via France

The question of eliminating this aid, which is very costly for state finances, has been on the table for months. To the great dismay of the automobile industry which fears suffering a difficult air gap after the all-too-brief stimulus of social leasing. This is why negotiations are underway behind the scenes… our colleagues from Les Echos have got their hands on a very interesting strategic contract between the State and the industry in this area.

Everything indicates that the ecological bonus will remain in force by 2027 (but its amount raises questions)

According to this document, which aims to deliver guarantees over a period which runs from 2023 until ;#8217;in 2027, both the industry and the State are committed in black and white to several points. On the one hand, French manufacturers are committed to implementing the all-electric future of the automobile sector without calling into question the State on this position.

By 2027, sales of electric cars must increase fourfold and sales of electric vans must increase sixfold. The ultimate objective is to reach 2 million units sold per year by 2030. The counterpart of these efforts, you see it coming: the State undertakes to maintain its aid, such as the ecological bonus, over the period.

Of course nothing is said about their amount. Formerly around €7,000 maximum (an amount which remains granted to the most modest households), it increased over time to €5,000 maximum, then to €4,000 maximum. 000€ in 2024 – under conditions. Additional aid such as the scrappage bonus also remains on the table. Very effective, social leasing must also return in 2025 according to the document.

Of course a lot of questions remain, especially in the absence of&#8217 ;precise announcements from the government. The existence of the document shows, however, that the State has little chance of deviating from this roadmap, at the risk of exposing itself to a very damaging sequence for the country. image of the executive. But obviously what will actually happen between now and 2027 is not yet completely written.

  • A document that Les Echos got its hands on reveals the commitments of the automotive industry and the State over the period 2023-2027.
  • On the one hand, the document lists a series of objectives for French car manufacturers, with some obligations such as not calling into question the State on its strategic choices.< /li>
  • On the other hand, the State is also involved, particularly around the maintenance of aid such as the ecological bonus, on the entire period.
  • The Ecological Bonus is considered essential by the sector, which otherwise risks too many difficulties to make this category profitable.< /li>
