“Princess Cruises is deeply saddened to confirm the death of a 48-year-old American guest who attempted to jump overboard earlier today aboard Sky Princess,”, the cruise line confirmed to Cruise Radio.
The cruise line said it is cooperating with local and federal authorities who are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
On December 15, the day of the ship’s departure, Elizabeth McElmurray shared a photo of herself and her mother as they boarded the ship. The two women were leaving to scatter her father’s ashes on his favorite beach in Jamaica.
“I did not expect to lose my daughter. I also want to publicly thank the crew for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time,” her devastated mother said in an online tribute.
