In December 2023, Xiaomi presented its first electric cars, the SU7 series models. Then, these were marketed in China from March 2024. Today, as the year draws to a close, it is time to take stock. And the least we can say is that the Xiaomi electric car is a great success. In a publication on the social network X, on December 28, the boss of the Chinese company announced that Xiaomi's objective for this year has already been exceeded. The manufacturer has exceeded 130,000 units shipped.

A target that has been revised upwards twice in 2024

Initially, Xiaomi's goal was to deliver a total of 76,000 vehicles in 2024. Then, this goal was increased to 120,000 units. And, in November, after announcing excellent quarterly results, the manufacturer set itself the goal of delivering more than 130,000 units this year. This clearly indicates that the demand for the SU7 series is higher than expected in the Middle Kingdom. And on the other hand, Xiaomi has been able to meet this demand. In November, Xiaomi mentioned a production capacity of 20,000 vehicles per month.

The manufacturer is preparing for the next step

Xiaomi is already preparing for the next step in the development of its automotive branch: the release of new models. This December, the manufacturer made official its first SUV, called the YU7. This new model inherits the visual language of the sedan, but should appeal to those who prefer to drive larger cars. For the moment, we don't have all the information. But the manufacturer could launch this new model between June and July 2025.

  • A year ago, Xiaomi unveiled its first electric cars
  • These were then launched in March 2024
  • And recently, Xiaomi announced that it has already exceeded its sales targets for this year
  • Indeed, Xiaomi has already delivered more than 130,000 SU7 series electric cars
  • However, this target has already been revised upwards twice in 2024, which shows that demand was greater than expected
  • Currently, Xiaomi is preparing the release of its first SUV
