The arrival of smart locks promised the end of traditional keys. While our test of the Yale L2 smart lock offered the beginnings of an answer, the solution was not yet perfectly intuitive. This promise is now being realized with the Yale Smart Keypad 2, a small device available at the price of €129. This new device enriches the Yale ecosystem and provides a concrete answer to users wishing to optimize their home access experience.

The Smart Keypad 2 stands out for its ease of installation. Two options are available to users: fixing by screws (two in number, supplied in the box with their dowels) or by adhesive pad. Once installed near the entrance door, in the perimeter Yale smart lock Bluetooth, keypad is to be added in the mobile application.

Koreans have already understood for several years now that it is much more practical to use a fingerprint reader to access their home. This is the real advantage of the Smart Keypad 2. Recognition is instantaneous, allowing then unlocking the door in less than three seconds.

The system can memorize up to 10 different fingerprints, ideal for a family. For more than a month of use now, the reading has never let me down, despite weather as cold as it is humid. The only downside here is that it is not possible to record multiple fingerprints for the same person, which means you have to choose the right finger to scan.

The keypad is not limited to reading fingerprints. It also allows you to generate personalized access codes via the Yale Home application. This function is particularly practical for giving temporary access to guests, household staff or short-term tenants.

Codes can be generated or chosen, then programmed with a limited or unlimited validity period, offering total control over access to the home. Given that previously it was necessary for the person to whom you wish to give access to the lock to download the application and then create a Yale account, this solution is infinitely more practical.

The connected dimension of the Smart Keypad 2 considerably reinforces its security aspect. The Yale Home application allows you to track all entries and exits in real time. Push notifications instantly inform you of each use of the keypad. In addition, the keypad also has a physical button dedicated to closing the door, which is also particularly practical. Pressing it will also send a notification to the owner of the accommodation. For greater peace of mind, the keypad can also be completely deactivated during periods of prolonged absence.

The keypad runs on batteries and the Yale Home application constantly monitors their charge level. An alert is automatically sent when the batteries start to run low, thus avoiding any unpleasant surprises.

Yale was smart enough to integrate a doorbell function into the Smart Keypad 2. As soon as a visitor presses the dedicated button, a notification is sent via the app or voice assistant. While the keypad does not offer as advanced functions as the Yale video doorbell, it is a practical addition for those who want a relatively simple function.

Daily use of the Smart Keypad 2 reveals how much it simplifies access to the home.No more tedious smartphone manipulations: take out the device, unlock it, open the Yale app, select the lock and press the opening button. A simple touch of the fingerprint reader or entering a code is now enough. This ease of use radically transforms the experience of connected locks.

The Yale Smart Keypad 2 truly reinvents the smart lock experience. Its super-simple installation, ultra-fast fingerprint recognition and intelligent access management make life easier. The quality of its manufacturing and the wealth of its functions justify its price positioning at €129, even on hopes for an upcoming update that allows multiple fingerprints to be recorded per user. The integration of a connected doorbell and compatibility with major voice assistants demonstrate the attention to detail.

Real-time notifications and the ability to temporarily disable the device also add to the sense of security. Yale has produced a mature product that should appeal to both techies and those simply looking to ditch their traditional keys. The Smart Keypad 2 is undeniably the accessory that was missing from the Yale smart lock ecosystem.
