After freezing rain, traffic is severely disrupted across all departments of Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin. Many accidents, including a fatal one in Alsace, are to be deplored.

The Bas-Rhin firefighters counted 24 traffic accidents between 6am and 11:30am, according to a press release received in the middle of the day, which reported one death and 18 injuries, one of which was serious. A collision between a tractor and a car on the D207 left one person dead, the driver of the private vehicle, in the town of Bischoffsheim.

On the A352 motorway in Molsheim, an accident involving several vehicles left five people injured in relative emergencies, while a collision between two cars in Lupstein left one person injured in absolute emergencies, according to the press release. Traffic remained completely blocked for several hours in the Strasbourg-Colmar direction on the A35 motorway, noted a team from the AFP, which saw many emergency vehicles pass by. “Ice is present on the roads, with several accidents already reported. Motorists and pedestrians, be extremely careful when traveling this morning“, warned the Meurthe-et-Moselle national police on the X network.

In Moselle, following an accident, a semi-trailer is stuck on the A4 motorway in the Strasbourg-Paris direction at Hombourg-le-Haut, generating 4 kilometers of traffic jams, indicated the prefect Laurent Touvet, on social networks. “The left lanes in both directions will be closed all day for repairs to safety barriers“, he warns.

“The black ice episode is tending to fade, however the firefighters are still in high demand”, write the Meurthe-et-Moselle firefighters on X, calling on residents to limit their movements, “including on foot, and thus avoid the mobilization of emergency services”. “The thaw will be gradual. Icy areas may persist on the road and sidewalks”, they warn.
