Just a few days ago, the indispensable navigation application Waze welcomed a much (very) anticipated update by its community. Let's remember that the application is responsible for making everyday life easier for 20 million French motorists and 140 million people worldwide. Today, a recent study tends to show that Waze may not ultimately be the champion of radar detection (in the United States).

Surprise! Waze is not the number 1 application for reporting speed cameras

Indeed, it was a study conducted by MarketWatch in the United States that made it possible to establish a ranking of the favorite applications of American motorists, aimed at identifying the presence of speed cameras on the road. And in this little game, against all expectations, it is Google Maps that comes out the clear winner, winning 70% of the votes.

Waze had to settle for second place, but with only 27% of the votes, just a notch ahead of Apple Maps. For the record, let's remember that Google acquired Waze in 2013 for $1.1 billion, which at the time was the fourth largest acquisition in the history of the Internet giant.

Remember that on Waze, speed cameras are added to the map based on reports from partners and publishers. In accordance with the new legislation, the exact positions of fixed speed cameras are no longer reported by default, and their reporting must be activated via the Settings box. The application also allows you to report slowdowns, potholes, obstacles on the road or vehicles stopped on the side of the road, with a “gamification” side very appreciated by many users.

For a long time now, Google Maps has also allowed you to report the presence of speed cameras on the side of the road (but not in France). To take advantage of this feature, you should also go through the application settings, in order to activate the options “Speed Limits” and “Speedometer” in the “Navigation Settings“ section.

At the beginning of August, Google unveiled a series of major improvements to its flagship navigation apps, Waze and Maps. These new features promise to completely transform your daily driving experience, and we're taking a look at 5 major new features here.
