You exercise regularly, but the scale doesn't move? A recent study from Kobe University in Japan may well have unraveled this mystery that frustrates so many people seeking to lose weight.

A story of protein

The team of Dr. Ogawa, endocrinologist, highlighted the crucial role d a molecule called PGC-1α in fat burning during exercise. This protein exists in several forms, including the “ b ” variants and “ c ” which appear to be responsible for fat loss.

The study reveals that these variants are produced in 10 times greater quantities in muscles during physical activity, unlike the “ a ” version which remains stable. The researchers found that mice lacking these “ b ” variants and “ c ” consumed less oxygen and burned less fat during and after exercise.

In humans, the study showed similar results. Volunteers, both healthy and those with type 2 diabetes, consumed more oxygen and had less body fat in proportion to their protein production. and “ c ”.

This discovery opens up new perspectives in the fight against obesity.

« If we manage to find a substance which increases the “b” and “c” versions, this could lead to the development of drugs that improve energy expenditure during exercise, or even without exercise,” explains Ogawa.

Unlike current treatments that aim to reduce appetite, this innovative approach could offer a solution to treat obesity regardless of dietary restrictions.

However, the study also highlights the long-term benefits of exercise, even for those who only produce the “a” protein. After six weeks of regular training, the mice developed more muscle, regardless of their ability to produce the “b” proteins. and “ c ”.

Researchers continue their work to understand the mechanisms of protein increase “  b » and “ c ” in the muscles during exercise. This study could well revolutionize the approach to the fight against obesity and offer hope to those who struggle to lose weight despite their efforts.
