You may be suffering from telesnobbery and not know it. Take the test!

Spread the love

Perhaps there is something you usually do with your loved ones that puts you in this category. Test yourself to find out if you are affected.

We all already have it; experienced during an evening, a meal or a meeting with family or friends. While part of the The assembly is discussing, a few people have their heads lowered, their gaze fixed at the scene. on the knees and head à everything else. If we ask them for their opinion on the current debates, they will repeat the question or, worse, will pretend to answer without even knowing what it is. I understood what it was about. These people are “TV snobs”. And obviously, it was their smartphone that took them away from the conversation.

In our society, the telephone has taken a prominent place. Every day, we consult it countless times. If the latter can prove very useful, this unfortunate habit can prove quite unpleasant for the entourage. But concretely, what is "t&eac;eacute;snobbism" ? The term denotes the fact, for a person, of checking their phone even when they are surrounded by their family or her friends with whom she shares a good time. This can go up to'à ignore someone's company and instead linger on your smartphone. Although this behavior may appear harmless today, there is a real impact on social relations.

According to the study by the research team at the University of Georgia published in Behavior & Information Technology, cited by Pourquoi Docteur, this behavior would be a symbol of a certain social anxiety. These people thus favor virtual relationships over real social interactions. The scientists who wrote this study also explain this phenomenon by smartphone addiction. They point out that the habit of receiving notifications very often pushes people to always want to look at them: “People are really sensitive to notifications. “Every time there is a vibration or sound, they look at their phone, consciously or not,” the study's lead author, Juhyung Sun, told the journal. Furthermore, the larger the group of people, the more telenobbery would be expressed because the person suffering from it thinks that others do not notice it.

To find out if you are “television snobbish”, think about your last evening with friends or your most recent family meal that you attended and ask yourself the following questions: Did you watch a lot of your phone ? Were you not very involved in conversations ? Have you ignored someone who was talking to you to check your smartphone ? Did you forget the main topics of conversation of that shared moment ?

If you answered yes to all of these questions, you may be a victim of telesnobbery. Now that you are aware of it, you can change your behavior the next time you spend time with your loved ones. To take advantage of background, you can for example leave your mobile phone in a corner or in your bag or in your pocket. Otherwise, you can follow the principle of the film The game of Fred Cavayé by putting all your mobile phones on the table. And this time, do not read out loud all the messages as in the film, but enjoy the moment and leave the phones alone.
