Video games stimulate reflexes, strategic thinking and even creativity. But a new “study” is shaking up these certainties, at least for some games. What if your choice of game says a lot about your intelligence ? That's the thorny question raised by a recent survey conducted by a site called WhichBingo.

FIFA at the bottom of the ladder: myth or reality?

The study caused a sensation in the gaming community as it tried to determine which games are the favorites of HPI and neuneus. < strong>FIFA players (yes FC 24, but does anyone in the world call it that ?) come in last place with an average IQ of 89.8. This puts FIFA players 10 points below the French average of 100.

While these results are sobering, they also raise questions. The study was conducted by WhichBingo, an online gambling company, not by academic researchers. Furthermore, the sample of 1,002 players raises questions about its representativeness.

More importantly, this study reignites the debate over the relevance of IQ as a single measure of intelligence. Psychologists now agree that there are multiple forms of intelligence that IQ tests struggle to capture.

So, should you put away your PS5 and rush to League of Legends to boost your IQ ? Not so fast. Each game develops unique skills. FIFA, for example, can improve hand-eye coordination, reflexes and even tactical understanding of real football. So the key here is to vary the pleasures.
