Since its launch, the new Windows 11 has given a special place to the Android ecosystem. With the application Link with Windows (which has more than a billion downloads), it is possible to synchronize your Android smartphone with your PC, in order to find your messages, calls, notifications… Recently, via its official blog, the American giant confirmed something new regarding its famous Start menu.

Windows 11 makes room for Android smartphones in the Start menu

We're gradually rolling out a new feature that allows you to use your mobile device directly from the Start menu of your Windows 11 PC” Microsoft explains. Concretely, the idea is to integrate our Android smartphone into the menu in a way that is both native and transparent.

On the screen, this appears as a new vertical area, displayed to the right of the Start menu. In the latter, we will be able to view the smartphone currently connected, but also the status of its battery and its connectivity. Added to this are quick shortcuts to access calls, messages, as well as photos.

In the lower part, we will find shortcuts allowing access to recent contacts, without forgetting an option allowing access to various settings. For Microsoft, it is about offering an ever more fluid experience, with the possibility for the user to resume the activity of their smartphone as soon as their PC is turned on Windows 11.

This new feature is not yet publicly available. To work, you must have version 22635.3790 of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build, but also version 1.24052.124.0 of the “Link with Windows” application. mentioned above. Microsoft promises that similar support for iOS (for the iPhone therefore) is also in the pipeline, but that the latter will be offered “at a later date “. So be patient.

Let's remember in passing that you have until October 14, 2025 to upgrade to Windows 11. After this date, you will still be able to use Windows 10 of course, but Microsoft will no longer provide support for it. And as is often the case with the American giant, a new advertisement has been seen by certain users, which encourages them to make the switch if they have not already done so.
