One of the advantages of Gemini, compared to ChatGPT, is that Google AI offers an extension system that allows you to use AI to perform actions on other online services. The Google Workspace extension, already available in France, for example, allows you to use the chatbot to search for documents from Google Drive, or even emails from Gmail, using prompts.
And last night, Google announced an update to its AI that allows it to use multiple extensions at once, on a single prompt. This new feature allows you to create combinations of extensions that can turn Gemini into a powerful productivity tool. For example, I can ask the AI to find the cheapest flights between Paris and Dakar, then save the results in a note on Google Keep. The AI will first activate the Google Flights extension to find the information I’m looking for, then activate the extension that allows you to save the notes. And all this is done without you having to open another application.

And that's not all, since the services and applications with which Gemini can interact are increasingly numerous. Indeed, in addition to Google applications such as YouTube, Maps or Workspace productivity services, Gemini also has extensions for Spotify, WhatsApp, or for sending text messages and making calls. However, it is possible that the new extensions do not yet appear on your account, since they are currently being deployed. Otherwise, Google is also testing a Google Home extension, which will allow you to use Gemini to control connected devices in the home.
If you’re using Samsung’s new Galaxy S25, you’ll also have the option to pair Gemini with Samsung’s calendar, note, and clock apps. In any case, the idea is that with these extensions, Gemini can not only answer your questions, but can also perform actions for you to save you time.
Project Astra is coming in a few months
Another update, coming this year, could make you even more addicted to Google’s Gemini AI. Indeed, the firm also took advantage of its announcement to indicate that it will begin to deploy the technologies of its famous “Astra project” on the Gemini mobile application on Android.
As a reminder, the Astra project is an AI that combines computer vision and language models. And thanks to this, it becomes possible to point your camera at an object or a scene and ask Gemini about what it sees, in real time.
- Gemini offers an extension system that allows you to use AI to perform tasks on other applications (like Gmail, Google Maps, etc.)
- And Google has just updated Gemini so that it can act on multiple services at the same time
- By combining multiple services on a single prompt, you have the possibility of entrusting even more tasks to AI
- Google has also just announced the launch, in a few months, of its Astra project
