Paula, scientist and astronaut, spent several months aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Here she is, back on Earth, parachuted into the atmosphere aboard the Vision capsule. She will soon be back with her family. Except that the latter is kept waiting and we end up saying that it has completely disappeared.

Her husband Sven is distraught by this situation and he is pushing to find her. When all seems lost, the latter discovers that Paula has left him a riddle that could allow him to locate her. As he continues his investigations with his daughter, Charlie, the man tells himself that this little game actually reveals an imminent catastrophe for the entire Earth. And Paula apparently made a stunning discovery aboard the ISS. We will have understood, the suspense is present from the start.

An addictive series

From the reviews from everyone who saw The Signal, this production proves to be very efficient and never drowns the fish. Without revolutionizing the sci-fi genre, its production is nonetheless very ambitious with certain plans worthy of the biggest productions of the genre. Its aspect tightened in 4 episodes hits the mark. So much so that this original creation can be binge-watched in a weekend, or even in a single day.

A popular original creation (but a confusing ending)

Overall, The Signal is a great success for Netflix. The German production is currently in second position among the most viewed series in France on the platform, just behind The Gentlemen. It has a score of 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is very decent. On the other hand, the public gave it the unflattering rating of 35%.

Why ? The criticisms mainly focus on the finale which disconcerted many spectators. Jonathon Wilson of Ready Steady Cut sums up these criticisms perfectly:

Most of these questions are unsatisfactorily answered, and the short running time the series has shows its weaknesses by stripping peripheral characters of their depth and making their motivations unclear.

The best thing is probably to see The Signal to form your own opinion at this subject. If you've already watched it, what did you think of it?? Feel free to share your views in the comments.
