6G will not arrive for a very long time, but many players are already starting to develop future technologies that could be used to deploy the future standard. And among these there are Docomo, NTT, NEC and Fujitsu. Anticipating the arrival of 6G, they developed a wireless communication device which, during tests, made it possible to transmit data at 100 Gbps over a distance of 100 meters. This is 20 times more than 4.9 Gbps, the maximum for 5G.

The objective of this work is to prepare for the use of subterahertz bands which are between 100 GHz and 300 GHz, which could allow 6G to offer exceptional speeds. “[…] Compared to the 28 GHz and other millimeter bands used in current 5G systems, the much higher frequencies of the subterahertz band will require entirely different wireless devices that are currently developed from scratch”, can we read in a press release published by Docomo.

6G: see you in 2030?

At the moment, we do not know the exact characteristics that 6G will have. But the various tests carried out in this area promise exceptional speeds and new uses in telecommunications. For example, this technology could allow us to communicate via holographic videos.

But patience is required, because we will have to wait several years to benefit from this new standard on telecommunications networks. According to a Nokia publication, 6G should be commercialized in 2030. As for phase 1 of its standardization, it would probably begin in 2026. In the meantime, research results in this area are increasing, giving us an idea of how we will use the Internet within a few years.

  • Docomo, NTT, NEC and Fujitsu are testing a device which has made it possible to transmit data at 100 Gbps over a distance of 100 meters (20 times greater than 5G)
  • The device aimed to explore the possibilities that open up to the world of telecommunications, thanks to the use of subterahertz bands which are between 100 GHz and 300 GHz
  • For the At the moment, we do not know the exact characteristics that 6G will have
  • But according to Nokia, phase 1 of its standardization should begin in 2026 and 6G should be marketed in 2030
