A new agreement is concluded on the working conditions of education professionals

Paul Chiasson The Canadian Press The building of the Quebec Workers’ Federation

An agreement on the working conditions of education professionals affiliated with the Quebec Federation of Workers (FTQ) was reached on Wednesday between negotiators representing union members and the government.

This agreement was reached at the last sectoral table where discussions were still underway within the framework of the Common Front negotiations, of which the FTQ is a part.

All that now remains is to establish the salary conditions of the 420,000 union members, a subject that falls under the central table, where talks are still underway.

On Wednesday, the FTQ announced that the negotiating committee of the Union of Professionals of Laval-Rive-Nord, SPPLRN-SCFP affiliated with the FTQ, reached an agreement with the Employer Negotiating Committee of the French-speaking School Service Centers in the framework of negotiations in the public sector.

The SPPLRN represents 1,000 union members in 33 different employment groups including nutritionists, remedial teachers, psychologists, social workers and guidance counselors working with 137,000 students in 235 schools in the Affluents, Laval and Mille-Îles school service centers .

This new settlement hypothesis must still be presented to the union delegates, who will then determine whether the terms constitute an agreement in principle which can be submitted to a general assembly of union members, who will make the final decision. More details to follow
