A pedestrian was hit by a motorist Tuesday shortly before 6:20 p.m. at the intersection of rue Caron and boulevard Charest Est, in Quebec.

Firefighters carried out resuscitation maneuvers before transporting him to a hospital. The victim, who suffered serious head injuries, is aged 84.

The motorist, aged 38, was also taken to hospital for shock.

An investigation is underway with the forensic identification service to shed light on the circumstances of the accident. According to the first elements, the theory of impaired driving was ruled out.

For the purposes of the investigation, Charest Boulevard is closed to traffic between Langelier and Dorchester streets.
