On May 15, Apple announced a series of new accessibility features, ahead of World Accessibility Awareness Day. Among these new features, for example, is a feature that allows you to control smartphones and tablets with your eyes, or Vocal Shortcuts, which allows you to perform tasks with personalized sounds. But the company also introduced a revolutionary feature called Vehicle Motion Cues, for people who get motion sickness.
Apple's solution to motion sickness
You've probably already noticed: some people feel nauseous when using a screen in a moving vehicle. According to Apple, this is because there is a disconnect between what the user sees and what they feel when they are in a moving vehicle. And to help people who have this problem, Apple will offer Vehicle Motion Cues on iPhone and iPad. To limit sensory lag, this feature will display dots on the screen that represent vehicle speed and movement. Using sensors built into the iPhone and iPad, these points move based on acceleration and turns.
Apple indicates that it will be possible to automatically activate this accessibility feature when movement is detected, or to activate it manually in the iPhone Control Center. Unfortunately, this new product is not yet available and it is therefore difficult to know how effective it is against travel sickness. Apple says its new accessibility features will be available by the end of the year. And it is very likely that these will arrive with the iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 updates for the iPhone and iPad. Normally, these versions will be presented in June during WWDC, then they will be launched in September.
