American actor Jonathan Majors was sentenced to probation but avoided prison on Monday for assaulting his ex-girlfriend in a high-profile case that derailed his once-promising career .

Star of Creed III and villain of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania< /i>faced up to a year in prison after being found guilty of misdemeanor assault by a Manhattan jury last December.

Judge Michael Gaffey also ordered Majors, 34, to complete, in person, a 52-week abuser's program. He also needs to continue his mental health therapy.

After the guilty verdict in December, Majors was immediately dropped by the powerful Marvel studio, which had previously chosen him to play Kang the Conqueror, a role that was to be the main “supervillain” of the movies and TV shows from the entertainment empire for years to come.

The conviction stems from a March 2023 altercation in which Grace Jabbari, Majors' then-girlfriend, accused him of assaulting her in the backseat of a chauffeur-driven car. The woman claimed the actor hit her in the head with his open hand, twisted her arm behind her back and squeezed her middle finger until it fractured.

Majors claimed it was the 31-year-old British dancer who attacked him, during a violent jealousy scene after reading a text from another woman on his phone.

He maintained that he was only trying to get his phone back and get away from Jabbari safely.
