The jury in Brandon Metallic's trial found the 31-year-old guilty of the second-degree murder of a man in his 20s and the involuntary manslaughter of a man in his 20s. x27;a little girl.

It was juror number 14 who announced shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday the verdict on which the six men and six women had unanimously agreed. The jury had been in seclusion since 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and was able to begin deliberations from that point.

Many Relatives of the victims were present at the New Carlisle courthouse to witness the announcement of this verdict following a trial that began on January 16. Several of them breathed a sigh of relief and sobbed when the verdict was read.

The courtroom was full. About fifty people came to hear the verdict.

Brandon Metallic was there subject to charges following events that occurred on May 15, 2021 in a residence on Riverside Street West, on the territory of the Mi'gmaw community of Listuguj. He had barricaded himself in this house after gunfire, which led to a major police operation. The identity of the two victims found on site is subject to a publication ban.

The accused, who was present in the courtroom, did not react unduly when the verdict was pronounced. He subsequently spoke on multiple occasions, without having the permission of judge Guy De Blois. He notably alleged that the court was a fake one and alluded to a kidnapping.

The individual was charged with the second degree murder of a man and the involuntary manslaughter of a girl.

Brandon Metallic had also made disjointed and incoherent remarks on countless occasions during his trial and had in fact been excluded from the courtroom on January 18 due to his lapses of conduct.

Following the verdict, the Crown declared itself satisfied with the work accomplished.

It is certain that the accused did not offer his cooperation throughout the trial. On the other hand, the trial took place in a satisfactory manner.

The Crown clarified that the burden of proof to demonstrate was the same as usual, even if the accused declined to present a defense during his trial. Me Frappier-Routhier made it clear that Brandon Metallic must still be found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by the jury, which analyzed all of the evidence submitted by the prosecution.

Judge Guy de Blois recalled that a life prison sentence automatically applies upon a verdict of guilty of murder and that Brandon Metallic will have to serve at least 10 years in prison. x27;imprisonment before being eligible for parole.

Florence Frappier-Routhier led all the prosecution's interrogations during this trial.

The magistrate d& #x27;elsewhere gave the jury the opportunity to make a recommendation since this period can vary from 10 to 25 years, but it abstained.

Brandon Metallic's exact sentence will be known at a later date. The case will return to the New Carlisle courthouse on April 18 for formal sentencing submissions. Relatives of the victims will later be able to testify to the impact that the events of May 15, 2021 had on their lives.

They did not wish to grant an interview to the media on Wednesday.

Me Frappier-Routhier indicated that Brandon Metallic did not ask , to date, of a pre-sentence report, a document generally produced by a probation officer and which serves to guide the judge in imposing the sentence. Metallic will nevertheless be informed of this possibility by the friend of the court, Me Ariane Cayer. The lawyer was appointed by the court to ensure the smooth running of the procedures and respect for the individual's rights since he represented himself alone.

During the trial, 22 witnesses were called to the stand by the Crown. Only six of them were cross-examined by the accused.
