Canada will participate in the humanitarian maritime corridor to Gaza

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, announced Sunday that Canada will participate in the humanitarian aid that will be transported by sea to the Gaza Strip.

In a statement released Sunday, Ms. Joly said Canada was committed to joining “the international coalition working to increase the flow of aid to Gaza through a humanitarian maritime corridor from Cyprus.”

The announcement was made at the end of a meeting between Ms. Joly and her counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Abdallah ben Zayed.

In a series of messages published on the social network

On Friday, the United Arab Emirates, the European Union, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Cyprus, the United Kingdom and the United States announced plans to open a maritime corridor to transport humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territory.

Several hundred thousand Palestinians are suffering from malnutrition after five months of war between Hamas and Israel. Ramadan, a sacred period for Muslims, begins on Monday.
