OpenAI, the company that offers ChatGPT, is increasing its partnerships. This May, for example, the company signed an agreement with the developer forum Stack Overflow, which allows it to use the site's content to improve its models. And this week, a new partnership is announced. This time, it is an agreement between OpenAI and the social network Reddit.

According to Reddit's explanations, thanks to this partnership, OpenAI will be able to offer Reddit content on ChatGPT and other products. “To do this, OpenAI will access Reddit's Data API, which provides real-time, structured, and unique content from Reddit. This will allow OpenAI's AI tools to better understand and present Reddit content, particularly on recent topics”, we can read in the announcement published by the social network.

For its part, Reddit will be able to benefit from OpenAI technologies and offer new features based on artificial intelligence to its community. Finally, through this agreement, OpenAI also becomes an advertising partner of Reddit.

AI has immense data needs

As a reminder, this is not the first partnership of this kind for Reddit. In February, a deal was also announced between the social network and Google, which continues to develop its Gemini model to compete with OpenAI. Google is rumored to pay Reddit $60 million a year.

In any case, as AI becomes more and more advanced, the need for data is greater. And in this race, some companies have big advantages. For example, xAI, Elon Musk's AI laboratory, can exploit content posted on Twitter. And recently, Meta Group explained that it trains its image generation model with Facebook and Instagram posts. However, Mark Zuckerberg's company clarified that it only uses public content, and not private content or content shared with friends.

  • Reddit announces an agreement with OpenAI, which gives access to the content of the social network to ChatGPT
  • Reddit will, for its part, be able to use technologies developed by OpenAI
  • Previously, a similar deal between Reddit and Google was announced
